Eurasian Eagle Owl. This largest owl in the world is capable of pinning and killing a 30lb deer.
Photographed at the World Bird Sanctuary outside of St. Louis, Missouri.
The World Bird Sanctuary is a non-profit organization founded in 1977 which takes in and rehabilitates birds of prey from both the wild and in rescue situations such as improper ownership or conditions. An on-site wildlife hospital welcomes and treats raptors toward the goal of re-releasing the birds into the wild. The fowl who are too injured to ever be returned to the wild become bird ambassadors, and educate the public about indigenous and exotic birds of prey. The World Bird Sanctuary also actively breeds wild birds of prey to restore endangered bird populations.
